Hey guys, My wife and I were out enjoying the tractors today, when we stopped for a little while and I tried taking off agian, and the clutch started shaking and and made a loud noise and before i got the clutch engaged again it lugged the tractor down and I got it shut down. So we towed it home and I took off an inspection plate right behind the hydrolic belly or what ever that is and here come a odd looking bolt and some rubber and steel washers, and looking at my IT manual it shows it holds a few things together. So I'm in a daze about this and realllll y not wanting to spilt the tractor. So how bad of a deal do I have and what could I possibly do to get it back together?

Thanks, Derek

My 48 M did the same thing, One of the coupler bolts and rubber washers fell out, but the bolts that hold the aluminum sleeve also came out. I put them back in and it is fine so far.

You don't have to split the tractor to fix it, but you will have to drop out the hydraulic Liftall unit if it is so equipped. It sounds like the parts you found are the bolts, etc that connect the main drive(clutch) shaft to the transmission input shaft. Possibly something else broke that caused this connection to fail, or maybe it just wore out. Minimum, you will need 4 of the drive shaft connecting bolts, 8 metal cup washers and 8 rubber washers that go in the connection. You may need other parts too, but you won't know that until you take a look. I think you can fix anything that would be wrong without splitting the tractor, but it's a dirty job down under there doing it, especially if you have not done it before and have to learn as you go.

A wierd looking bolt with rubber and steel washers...that sounds like the bolts that hold the drive shaft joints together.

Heck, you can replace the whole clutch and pressure plate on that tractor without splitting it... It's a little tricky, but doable. I've done an H before, myself, and I'm like a turtle on my back, totally helpless. If I can do it, anyone can. Worst part is dropping that liftall pump out.
