Steering gear slop in Super M

I need a little advice here: I believe it's typical but I have a lot of slop (play) in my steering gear on my 1953 Super M to the extent that at high speeds in road gear, the front tires (new) shimmy. If I slow down, this decreases somewhat, but I would like to know just what I need to do to remedy this problem once and for all. Any help out there would be appreciated. Is this a major mechanical problem or can it be remedied fairly easily? Thanks.

The bearing on the worm shaft at the top of the bolster may have developed some end play, or the bearing may be just shot. Check that out going in. Not a very big deal. LE

If you can turn the gear up front 1/4 or 1/2 a turn it will take some slack out of it. You can do that by jacking up the front end and taking the nut off of the shaft going down. May take a block of wood and a big hammer to get the gear loose.
