I got the 101 fertilize unit mounted to my 140 yesterday and got it working along with the planter. Decided to take two of the fertilize hoppers and use the best parts out of each to make one good one rather than two that had defects. Trouble is that both of the fibergalss buckets are cracked at the three bolt holes. I can repair the cracks with a fiberglass repair kit and might even add a layer of fiberglass all around the bottom to make it stronger. After the repair I want to paint it back to origional color. All the hoppers I have seen have a kind of antique white color or faded yellow look to them. When they were new were the a bone white color or did they come with a antique looking shade of white?

Hi

To make them look white again you need to coat them with white gel coat ,that for fiberglass coating that will stick to the glass. You need a special fiberglass gun to put this on with or brush it on with,it got hardener in the gel coating so you get a hard finish.I don't know if you can buy gel coating or not, comes in different colors. Its some thing a mfg plant would use.

They were an off white as you say, but they were not painted. The off white, with a yellow to biege tint, was the finished color of the fiberglass material used to make the hopper.

Thanks,

Thats about what I had figured but was thinking they might have faded over the years and would look better painted.

I still think I'll beef up the bottom part with the fiberglass repair kit and even if its a differant color it wont really matter. The last kit I had (20 years ago) had fiberglass cloth and two part epoxy. It worked real good to repair a boat.

Just checked both of mine. There is no paint on either one. One does have an IH decal facing the front of the tractor when mounted.
