Previously I posted a message about the year of my B farmall. The engine serial number is FAB 2 I 466. However, the original seat was replaced with a after market type. Thus there is no tractor serial number. So what this thing worth? I am not sure I want to sell it but the value may influence how much money I want to put in to it. I would say its in good unrestored shape but like many other tractors there has been some modifications such as a tool box added to a fender, different seat, chain links welded to the fender to hold the crank etc. Thanks for any reply

I think that I should be a 1. Numbers start at 501.

George, After trying to get my camera to focus and get a somewhat decent picture, I took a picture and posted it on the help identify gallery. You can see that what I am calling an I is stamped deeper and larger then the font of the 466. What do you make of this? Could 1 to 500 be used for replacement engines? I know it is typical for serial numbers to start at 100 or 500 etc and should have looked this up. This is the only I that I can find on the B. Does anyone know were the the date stamp would be on the torque tube or any other casting?

Curt, it looks just like the 1 in mine. Mine did have a matching serial number on the tag that began with 1.

That makes it a 21466 Engine ser no. made in some time in 1940 worth approximately 750 in western MN, and maybe 1200 to 1500 after I put 1500 in to it and painted and fixed up a bit. This thing also has a Minneapolis Moline Hydro. control unit, one spool and a pump that is run of the alt belt. I bought it with a clean 1 row cultivator that has hydro. lift (which is the reason for the add on Hyd. system). I guess I will leave that on it and use it to cultivate my garden. I just bought a engine stand and now I need to clean up my shop so I can start. Thanks much for the help. I am still interested in finding a date stamp on it somewhere as I said before my C and H seems to have the letters on all major casting.

It will make a good garden tractor after you spend that 1500.

Curt, I haven't looked at your picture yet, but I did go look at the 47 B in my yard. Guess what? Couldn't find any casting codes on it either. The serial number will be later than 501. It is possible it could be a replacement engine, but not likely. The serial number on mine begins with 1, but is deeper than others and looks like an I. It is a 1 however. I suspect the one you have is too. I will look at picture as soon as this computer quits acting up.
