If it has a starting tank, or a hole in the right rear corner of the hood, A means it has a distillate engine, a little unusual for a Super M, but distillate engines were available through 450 production. J means it has a Rockford clutch, as nearly all of them do. The Super M has a high speed 4th standard. For the M, not the Super M, X1J means gasoline engine, high speed 4th, 5000 ft altitude pistons.

I looked again and you are right. I was looking right at M codes. I thought it was strange when L should have meant the three things I mentioned.

Unlike my other post. It is a 5 speed in a standard H pattern for 2 thru 5 and 1st and reverse are opposite one another. All the way to the left and up is reverse If it was ordered with steel wheels it may have 5th locked out. I don't know if that was done on these or not.

A is for low low gear and J is high speed 4th gear and 5000 foot pistons. That make it rarer than everyday Super M. It was made in Louisville.
