The PTO unit must be removed from the tractor first before trying to separate the the castings. The PTO clutch assembly is mounted on the front of 1000RPM shaft and there is a heavy spring to return the clutch piston that is held on that shaft by a snap ring. This clutch assembly must be removed from the front of the PTO assembly before the rear casting can be removed.
