Is there a way to identify the year with out an ID tag? I do not have a serial number.
Thank you.

The motor WILL have a serial number stamped on a flat place somewhere (Hopefully, a H owner will tell wus where.) and this will tell you the year of the motor which will be the same or next to the year of the tractor.

The major parts like the rearend and transmission have a casting date such as 6*25*S where S is the year. I am not at my office right now so I don"t have my cheat sheet. The 6*25 would be for June 25.

Look at the casting codes. Just about every part of the tractor that is made of cast iron will hace a code. The code will look similar to 2*15*I, which would translate to February 15, 1939. The letter I is the code for 1939. J is for 1940, K=1941, etc. There were a couple of letters that were not used, I think Q is one of those, and some of the 1947s actually had 47 instaed of a letter. Post back with what you find on yours, and someone will figure it out.

Q was used. My 1947 M has some parts with the Q date code and other parts dated "47.

My 51 H has the serial # stamped on a small pad near the oil filter on the rt side of the engine. Matches the serial # on the ID tag. Has the letter W stamped on several parts.
