Changed the oil and cleaned the strainer in the hydro tank. Now none of hydros work. The reason for the change was power steering was weak. The old oil was nasty thick. I wonder if I've used too thin oil, steering pump is shot, but now the fast hitch dosen't even work. What have I done wrong, please help.

AW-32,Hy-Tran or SAE 10 through 30(non-detergent) will work fine in that system. You have just lost your prime, it will pick up and work, but may be a while. I had one on my 450 diesel that had sat for 14 years empty. It wouldn't do anything for a month after filling with oil. Of course I only started it periodicaly. Then one day out of the blue, I started it and heard the pump whine a little for the first time. I then reached up and turned the wheel and power steering worked like a charm. It has worked fine since.

Hey georgeky thanks for the insight. Are you familar on how to reprime the hydraulics? Or anyone else know how. Any help would be apprecative.

Probably nothing you did. You could have air in the system, or perhaps you lost the prime to the pump, but that should not have happened due to a simple drain and refill. I am not familiar with that particular pump, someone else can tell you how to prime it. I suppose it's possible the previous owner used heavier oil for the very reason you mention. You should have used HyTran or equivalent, which I understand is about the same viscosity as 10W, thus the crud you drained was way too thick.

I bled the system out after the refill verbatum by the IH service manual. I refilled with heavy iso-68 hydro oil, the best money could buy.

I am not familiar at all with the oil you bought. You said heavy, that is a relative term -- but, Hytran is not heavy, best money can buy or not, it appears to be the wrong oil.

I don't remember 100% what the bucket said. I remember heavy hydrualic oil-ISO-68. The guy at napa said it was the best grade of hydro oil he even carried. Another guy said thicker oil would be better in an older machine. So I went with the 68 oil instead of the AW-32 hydro. Sorry if I was unclear before.
