I can't quite figure out how to operate the remote two-way hydraulics on my MTA. Book says to pull "Lift All control rod" (top rod for raising 3pt) all of the way back and lock it into place. Then unlatch the "Remote control valve lever". It says to then move the "Remote control rod" forward or back for up or down pressure.

I understand this, but, when I do this (pull the remote rod back to open the gate), it will raise the 3pt first. When the 3pt bumps the drive shaft and stops, it will then proceed to raise the lift gate on the baler-like it is supposed to. If I then push down, it will push the gate down (shut it)---but the 3pt is stuck up against the drive shaft until I lower the All lift rod.

How does one lock the 3pt in place so that the remote hydraulics only operate the rear gate? I could let the 3 pt raise and lower to the max I guess, if I put the draw bar back on to attach the baler to (it would not collide with the drive shaft). Right now though, the 3 pt wants to collide with the drive shaft first--which isn't going to work. Thanks.

As I understand your setup you have a loader, 3PT. and need at least 1 2-way remote there-fore you need to get a three-spool (3 valve) remote and set 2 spools for one-way and 1 spool for your 2-way remote. That should solve your problems for now. Armand

I don't know what kind of 3 point you have. Saginaw, for example lets you use the original drawbar. Anyway, a simple fix is to put a quick disconnect in the line to the 3 point, and simply unplug it if you don't need it for baling. Lock the main lever back, and use the remote for the baler. As mentioned below it is not a good idea to pull from the 3 point drawbar, but you can use it as long as it stays in the down position.

I see what you mean. Right now, I don't have a quick disconnect in line for it, but I could pick one up tomorrow. I have split the 3pt line to work a trip loader in front. There is a valve that toggles between the two, but it doesn't have an off position. Would be nice if it did.

I am thinking I should go ahead and put the drawbar back on. Like mentioned, it will probably be safer. I took it off about 17 years ago. I have it and the bolts and I think I kind of remember how it bolted on. The original frame part on the back is gone, but the 3 pt on it has a space where it slides through and then bolts ridgid with some clips to hold it down.

I can then let the 3 pt ride up to where it will stop on its own at the max height. The remote should then kick in. I am hoping this will work. If not, I look at something like the disconnect. Thanks.

Sounds like you may have pressure line to 3 point cylinder hooked to one of the ports at liftall reservoir. are you using hydraulic cylinder on 3 point as pressure up and gravity down? Anyway if 3 point cylinder is hooked to liftall you need to plug line, put a quick disconect in line or a simple on off valve to shut flow off to 3 point when using remote contral valve. When you pull the remote valve back it stops oil from circulating and pressure is sent to liftall unit, pressure will not release from liftall unit because of check valve until its lever is moved forward.

After thinking about it some more,if three point is hooked to reservoir port and you don't need 3 point while baling you could simply let 3 point arms come to top of lift travel and leave it there if arms are not in the way and it wouldn't hurt anything if remote control is plumbed as original.

This worked great. The 3 pt is all of the way up and the baler is now hooked to the drawbar. I pull the lift-all back and lock it and then use the remote to open and close the baler gate. Works great.

The 3pt I use is power up and gravity down. I think I will do what you mentioned. Allow the 3pt to come up and stay there out of the way. I'll put the drawbar back on. It will be more stabile and no risk for dropping it down like the 3 pt might. I have the baler off right now and the 3pt up. I'll bolt the drawbar back on pretty soon. Eventually, I may put on a off switch or a quick disconnect. Thanks.

You have a series/parellel problem. Your two loads are in series and the oil will go to the load with the least resistance.

My solutiion would to remove the Christmas tree valve (remote valve) and pipe your lift-all into a two (or three) spool open center valve bank. You could make a bracket so that it is near the steering wheel or mount it vertically on the battery box or right angle bracket bolted to rear frame cover.

You now have independent control over the two loads as long as you only use one at a time.

The lock for the lift-all is small tab of steel near the operating shaft that goes into the lift-all. Rotate it while the lever is pulled back to send fluid to the new valve bank.

This makes good sense because, with the spool, I could operate my front loader lift without toggling between the 3pt. I would then be set up to operate the remote without messing with the movement of the 3 point. I will check into this later this year. I need to do something similar on my Allis D17. It is not set up for a 2 way cylinder currently, but I have an idea on how to do it. Thanks.

I just reread my reply. Forget the first paragraph. It doesn't mean much for your situation anyway.

But get the valve bank. It will simplify everthing. I always use a three valve setup so I can have the extra circuit if I need it later.

It is not a good idea to be pulling the baler from the 3pt anyway. To much sway and chances are it is not the right distance from the pto, for it to operate correctly when turning corners.

The distance is about the same with the drawbar, but the 3 pt does sway quite a bit. Also, the baler hitch collides with the crossbar fairly easily. I am going to put the drawbar back on. Thanks.

Your going to have to install a selector valve in the hoses that go to your three point so you can shut the flow of oil to it off when you use your baler.

Thanks...Right now, I am very glad that I have a remote on it that will work a 2-way cylinder. The Allis D17 I have supposably has more hp than the MTA, but is not set up to do a 2-way cyl. Once I get the 3pt problem situated, I'll be ready to go or I might find out what my next problem is.
