Hey everyone, I am in need of some advice on a governor for a M. I am in the process of changeing governors, so I robbed one off a parts tractor. There is a little diffrence in the two govoners. The one on my tractor that I want to replace has 17 teeth on the gear. The one I robbed has 16. The weights also have diffrent casting numbers. One is marked A1 and the other is B1. The only other diffrence is that the one I robbed has a stud and nut coming out the back side of the housing that the other one is lacking. Will this governor work for me, will I have to swap gears?? Thanks in advance guys. Harley

Thanks for the replys everyone. I robbed the governor off of an early model M. I'm not sure of the year. I will try to get the part number off of the weights tonight. They were stamped A1 and B1 also, I'm not sure what that number is I guess. The stud did come out of the housing towards the rear of the tractor, close to the block side. Near as I can tell they would interchange if I swap gears. The 16 tooth gear is a little smaller in diameter. Was there any diffrence in the M and super M governors. This is going on a M, but it has a 4" bore with IH dome pistons, I'm wondering if I dont have a super M engine? How does one tell? Thanks again.

If its the pivot shaft that goes through the fork that has threads sticking out on back to engine side it has aftermarket parts. If sticking out to rear of tractor its a adjustment for a bumper spring used on some power units and other things. Gears can be changed on shaft but if using whole unit there will be some other differances if unit is from 4 series engines.

You didn't say what model tractor you robbed. The H governor gear has 16 teeth and is designed to run at a different rpm. As to the weights, they have the same part number, 45655DA for the H and M. -- don't know what you mean by A1 and B1. The housings have the same part number -- beyond that I don't know. You can check the other part numbers for yourself on the CaseIH website.
