Ah yep ya dione scored a sleeve and ya were just a wisker away from the China Syndrome with here as ya were running 87 octain and pullen her hard and son ya can't do that . Now today with gassers ya have to have all your duckies in a row and by that the engine timing HAS to be dead nuts on and the main thing is ya do not go over the total advance timing by more the 2 degrees , the centrifcal advance MUST be working correctly and CURB timing must be dead on at idle with the engine RPM's at factory spec. as when setting the timing at idle your rpm at idle must be where it is if not then the cent. adv. is alreay starting to come into play and this will give a false set . Valve adjustment is important also . Correct spark plugs are something that should be looked at as using a D21 for heavy field work will start this ball rollen with the pre ing. and this is was causes the comb. temps to go off the scale and believe me when i tell this by the time you see it on the temp. gauge it is TO LATE as the damage is done . So after ya repair it these are the things that ya must realy check out and as for the dist ya need to find Someone that has a dist. strobe and knows how to use it to make sure that it is getting the correct timing curve , then PUT 93 octain gas it it and she will do fine as if ya would take the time to read the fuel req. for the 6 cyl. gassers ya would see that they need more then 87 as when they were built new reg gass was no less then 93 octain and that is the min. that you can get away with since over the years MOST 560 gassers have had the 706 C263 updates done to them and nolonger able to run 89-90 octain . So if it comes down to rebuild time then ya might as well make here a 706 263 and run here on up to the 706 spec. wright down by the book. Ya got problems and don't know where to turn the just yell i will be more the glad to help ya out BUT I AIN'T getting my hands dirty.

Tractor Vet, I really need your advise. My post on the 560 has been removed, how can I talk to you? My email is wisnefske@webtv.net. What parts are the best value, don't want junk.

Bill

Since it got hot I would guess you scored the cylinders. IH six cylinder gassers are very sensitive to low octane fuel and excess heat, IE the pistons expand and melt. Most likelly you will need to do a complete overhaul. Also you will need to find out why it got hot in the first place, plugged radiator ect.

I would start by dropping the oil pan and take a look at the bearings. Hal
