Hello all;

I have a Super A, and it has started making a grinding/rubbing noise as I let out the clutch. I am not sure if it is my throwout bearing (read somewhere that it could be the culprit) or if somethings is going bad in the tranny. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thank you for your assistance.

If it is quiet when you hold the clutch down, it is NOT the throwout bearing or the pilot bearing/bushing.

If it makes the noise just as the tractor starts to move, it is the clutch against the flywheel and/or pressure plate making the noise. Some noise is normal - my A has made noise since we got it about 10 years ago and still works just fine.

Only while the clutch is actually engaging or releasing??? Clutch disk will do that if nearly worn out-rivets riding on flywheel or pressure plate. It will probably slip if in high gear with a load. Clutch pedal probably starts to release very quickly or the adjustment is about out of room. Also, a broken pressure plate spring can do that but the clutch will usually chatter as well. Check out some of these possibilities.

I have a super c that has done that for 20 years and I use it a lot. I removed deck to check out bearings couldnt find any thing out of ordinary so I assumed it was throw out bearing. It is still going. I also have a 44 H done the same thing turned out bearing on main shaft was bad on it if that is case it will severely damage trany.

What about when you are holding the clutch pedal down? If it does it anytime the pedal is depressed, I would say it is the throw-out bearing. If it only does it when you are letting the pedal out, I don't know for sure...

Thanks for the responce.

It is only doing it when I let the clutch out, it is fine when I am holding the clutch down, or when I am moving.
