I have a few questions concerning my 966. I was curious where to check the rear end fluid level and what kind of fluid to put in. I also was curious where to drain the fluid.

There are five drain plugs. You will need to remove four of them. First one is is in the cover under the clutch housing. This is the cast cover not the steel plate. The next one back you can leave in place. Main differential drain is covered by the drawbar. You will need to remove the front pin and slide the bar back to access the plug. Those three are 1/2 inch square recess plugs. The final drive drains are located on the final drive housings and are 3/8 square recess plugs. You may well need to ge a plug socket for these plugs to get them out. If you use a socket handle it may break off where the detent ball is located.

There is a dip stick on the platform just inside the brake pedals.

Check a manual, there is more than one plug to drain the fiuld out.
