Light Lens... Spindles?

Hey guys, When I first got my tractor, I was checking things out, and wanted to fix the switch on the backup light. Well, I thought it was just a sealed beam headlight like the fronts, so I go and take the rings off and out falls the lens and breaks. Then I see its not the way I thought it was. Its been without a lens for a long time and I get tired of hearing it rattle. Im also going to do a 12v conversion, so I wanna hook this light back up and get it working good, so I need a replcement lens. Does anyone have one they want to get rid of of know where i could get one relatively cheap? I'd like to keep the original red light in there as well. If I cant find a lens, I'll probably just take the old reflector out and put in a standard sealed beam headlight if one will fit, and put the reflector in with all the other original stuff I took off. i decided to do this for in the event of a sale, The new owner would have as much of the original stuff as possible in case he was looking for a restorer. Also, both of my front spindles are bent, normally this is a slight bit of camber on both spindles, now one side has alot of camber and the other has no camber. I'm assuming it coincides with the fel arms being bent a hair on the left side, like somebody crashed into something in road gear. Yes I have inspected much of the casting to ensure nothing is cracked and it all looks good, and I have the fel arms compensated for. Just wondered if these things are expensive? I dont need to replace them, but Just wondered. Wish I'd have seen it bnefore I bought it, could gotten it cheaper, but hindsight is 20/20.

Considering I did no real test drive and it was more of an impulse buy, I faired pretty well. Didnt know alot about tractors back then. I nknew enough from my auto expereience to check the engine out good tho.

300u BTW

Complete rear combo light assemblies are available brand new with the original style "guide" logo on the lens. They are not particularly inexpensive. Replacement lenses with the "guide" logo are also available. Brand new replacement reflectors with the bulb socket are also available, but so far I have not been able to find a replacement reflector with the small red light in it. For what it's worth, exact replacement sealed beams such as used on the supers with the flatback headlamps are also available with the original "guide" logo.

Hi Jay , look on e-bay for an original guide lens - but they'r not cheap (around 20 or so with shipping) .....or a local salvage yard might have one (?) ,,,,, no one makes a sealed beam bulb that will fit in that light housing (i've looked !) best route on the front spindles might be to buy a complete front end (the Ut. fronts are cheap),,,,,& i do have a 300 U that i've been thinking i should part out rather than to fix it up , so if you'r anywhere near wis. , hollar back & maybe we "can fix you up"
good luck / Thanks , Dave

O Dave, how I wish you were here!!
HAH
Anyways, if you do part that sucker out, let me know on a few other things. Namely Is the hydraulic pump in good shape? If the condition is unknown, then I might have to pass unkless u can give me a deal I cant refuse. Mine whimnes alot and I just have a hard time believing a worn pump would have noise like that and not just explode and its got awesome pressure, I'm thinking maybe the drive gear/cm gear is worn, but havent looked into it. The diagnositc manual says its ewither the hardlines hitting the frame or low hydraulic fluid, hah. Anyways, if you part it out, I'm interested in that hydraulic pump, that lens if u still got it, but forget the spindles, as the shipping wouldnt be very nice to me, altho I bet I could gettem fedexed for about $40.
I'd also be interested ina rear tire too, basically the rim, mine is rusting. Man if you live close, I'd probly buy half that tractor, haha!!

If it comes to paying $20 for a lens, then I'll just put another headlight fixture on the back, hah

Jay , i don't have any extra lenses (i'm always buying some for myself )- & i'd have a hard time finding time to monky with shipping on a rim ..... . you'd be better off to find one closer to home anyway - even if you have to buy new , by time you figure shipping it might not cost much more & you do not need a hyd pump .....if it's not low on fluid , & the steel lines are not hitting the frame then (my geuss is)it's starving for fluid - most likely the screen needs cleaning , or the oil could be to heavy (cold weather will make it worse)..... drain it out , clean the screen & put in new hy-tran (only -cheap substitutes do not hold their viscosity with temp changes as well) ,,,,, ,,now if you get an intermitent loud whinish groan that labors the engine - that could also be a dirty screen , but usually is air in the hyd system ( the manual tells how to get rid of that)

You can get the lens at the dealer 12v bulbs also. There are tons of vendors that have them but cant be listed here or i can send some 18.00 ea pluss postage. Check the ho9les on the front adjustable axles they are probably egg-shaped from no having things tite.

I'm not following you on the egg shaped holes? The front adjustable has like clamps that hold in the uprights which the spindles pass through. Are you talking about the bushings in the uprights?
As for the camber, maybe you think I'm talking about castor? can the uprights be spun in those clamps? is that what you are referring too?
I've never had the front end apart, so dont be too harsh on my terminology. =)
The front end is solid. When i was repacking the wheel bearings I checked for sideplay in the spindle bushings and they are surprisingly tight for a tractor with a loade ron it its entire life. This was owned by a hospital for about 30 years of its life, so it was probably taken care of and maybe the bushings were replaced?
