I bought a basket f12 and am now trying to put it together. The magneto doesnt seem to be the correct one SR#f4-56I37.First of all it has a lever that will engage or disengage the lock block on the back top of the magneto. Nowhere in my service manual is this pictured or mentioned The only thing it shows is using a nail threw the oiler hole. Next the coupler on the magneto is slotted and the other adjustable coupler has tabs the coupler bushing that goes between is slotted on both sides. Am I missing parts, do I have the wrong magneto, IF it will help the tractors SR# is fs18218 I wish I knew how to send a picture Thanks Roger

You have the older mag with the manual impulse coupling I bet. Do the wires plug in or are they secured with a nut?

John the lever Im talking about is on the same end as the coupler just above it. It locks out or releases the starting impulse. The bushing I have is slotted on both sides. It fits into the adjustable coupler just fine. On the mag side the bushing and the mag are both slotted. No way to make it work .Do I have the right parts ? whats missing.

Dont know, there was a mag on Ebay the other day, dont know if its still there or not, but take a look and youll see the mag you need. Im not saying the one you have is wrong, but Im not familiar with the mag you have. Maybe a fairbanks or Bosch. Give Cowman a shout, he would know if anyone would which mag you have.

You have the right mag. What you see in the manual is how to lock out the starting impulse, or unlock it rather so that it spins freely without catching the advance. This is done when servicing the mag. The "lever" on the other end is the spark advance for the points and has nothing to do with the other end and allows you to retard the spark so you dont brake your arm if it kicks back while hand cranking and also kills the tractor when fully retarded. The couple is correct. The peice with the bolt holes is for fine tuning.Once you have the engine at TDC, rotate the mag with the spark advance in full advance and the rotor at #1. I just turn the mag backwards so you dont have to fool with the nail. You have to put the coupler wit hthe tabs on the drive then the one with the bolt hole on it and then set the mag in place and put the two bolts in the right place on the coupler. Understand?
