I am looking at purchasing a 153 engine that is out of a Farmall combine to put in my Farmall H. My question is how can I make sure it will fit? What model or serial number do I need to look for on the engine?

Thanks for the help guys. I haven't done alot of work with the farmalls so all this is good info for me.
I would like to put an engine out of a 300 in it. The only problem is my wallet will only allow me to spend about $400.

HJ The C153 wont fit in your H. You can make them fit in A B Or C but an H would be a major job and hard to make it look very good.

I only know about the stuff that I own. I don't kbow about A's,B's, or C's but I do have a 153 cubic inch 504. The back of the motor (flange that bolts to clutch housing) is cast integrally with the block; kinda like a Cub. It should bolt up to the center section of a H, 300, 330, 340, 460 and maybe others. As for starter, flywheel, and clutch, I suspect some combination of parts and a little machine work would get the job done.

HJ: Why not go for H, SH, 300 or 350 engine. that C-153 is just about the poorest engine IH ever built, no sleeves, and not near the torque the other engines have. You will be one disappointed guy.

You'll have to modify the breather, fan or rad, probably flywheel, plus a whole bunch of little things. I'd put a $1,500 in one of the old sleeved engines first. It will be less money in the long run.

I agree with Hugh, I had a 153 engine in a backhoe (2500) and it was not the best. It was not sleeved. I tried to find a replacement block and I discovered that there are two different bell housings on 153 older ones are round and the later ones are more (for lack of a better word) house shaped.
