I am rebuilding my 1967 1256 with the DT407 and have not had much trouble finding parts. I am having trouble figuring out the wiring for the alternator. The harness that travels over the feul tank to the engine is there but I do not know what is what. Is there anyone out there that can help me?

There should be a very heavy wire with a ring terminal. That one connects to the + post of the alternator. There should also be a grey square plug with two wires going into it. This plugs into the back of the alternator. Case-IH still has new harnesses avalible for these tractors. I'd really recommend rewiring yours if the wiring is in tough shape. I've got brand new wiring on four of our seven tractors now, gonna do the fifth one when it warms up, one I can't get harnesses for, and one doesn't need it. Sure is nice when all of the lights work and you don't have to worry about a bare wire touching ground and burning up the tractor. Your Case-IH dealer's shop probably has the old manual with wiring diagrams for everything up to the 06 series. Ask them if they will make you a photocopy of the diagram for a 806 Diesel w/ alternator or a 1206. Those will be almost identical to your 1256.
