My wife helps with clipping the pastures by using a smaller tractor (42 hp) and a 6' bush hog. I pull a 9' bush hog with a larger 65 hp tractor. Last year after going round and round all day she said we need to get one of those big bat-wing models to do this. I told her we didn't have a tractor large enough for one. I was then told we just needed to get a bigger tractor as well - don't you just love her!!! Just what would be a nice Farmall/IH tractor (we want to be Red) with enough horsepower and convenience features to spend a day in the seat clipping pastures and weeds? We are talking about keeping a couple hundred acres in check a couple times a year. Most of the pastures are fairly flat along a creek in bottom ground in Missouri. Ideas and suggestions will be most appreciated. This is something that might not happen for a couple years but would like to start giving it some thought in case the "right tractor" came along. Thanks and everyone have a great week and remember your special lady on Wednesday, Hal.

I have a 1066 with a 14 foot Rhino behind it. Just plays with it! Nice thing is the Rhino only cost me 300.00 used and I put another 3 to 400.00 in the gear boxes. Cheap huh!

Hal I have a 15 ft Rino and pull it with a 756D my Uncle has a 15 ft woods and he pulls it with a 70 hp Fiat. If I go through heavy weeds it will make the 756 smoke pretty good. Msx pulled a 10 ft for years a kind of made fun of me until he got the 15 ft. he told me one day he could not have imagined how much difference it would make on the time spent, and what he got done. I would not want to pull it with a much smaller tractor than a 70 hp.

We used to pull one with an 806, plenty of power but almost too much weight, it was a 3pt with some little gauge wheels on the back. It was awful heavy, always beating up the hitch on the tractor and the mower, and the gauge wheels. Worked a little better on a 1086, but you still had to have a lot of weight on the front. I don't have any experience with one, but I have to wonder if some kind of trailing mower would work better, you could use a little lighter tractor.
