I am rebuilding a 1943 H engine and I had not become aware until now that the distriutor was missing. Does anyone have one?

Old's rresponse raises an issue in my head that I had not thought about. Did the 43 come equipped with a mag or distributor system?

It would have been a magneto. I don't think IH began installing battery ignitions until somewhere around 1949? Maybe even later. Very few Hs still have the original mag. Just about all have been changed over as part of an IH up-dating program. Either the mag or the distributor would be considered correct to all but the most fussy.

If you have any remains of a wiring harness you should be able to tell what it had last anyway.

Could have come either way, all depends on how it was ordered from the factory. Being a war time tractor an all it could well have had a mag on it when new but unless you knew who got it when new its hard to figure out for sure

Don't have a distubutor but I have a mag. It needs new points put into it and it should be good
