any way to get more horse power out of a M. dont really want to mess with the head.

The govenor spring trick works just done mine today. I got the spring from TSC.Its about 1 or 2 rounds longer but alot stiffer.

Messing with the head (including removing it) limits the ideas. Putting in a 450 cam, 450 manifold, matching ports, 450 carb, electronic ignition, and an electric fan to replace the factory unit, will go a long way. Changing components is really the only option, they made as much power stock as the stock components allow with out tweeking them with racing techniques. JimN

put a heavier spring in the gov...if you are rebuliding the engine put 4 1/8 pistons in it, super M crank and cam. also if u want to pull, put a k&n air filter, and an M LP manafoild

There's a lot of horsepower hiding in a good tune-up. Just make sure the 'ol gal is as right as possible before making any major changes.
