My Dad had a 300U with a loader backhoe on it. He brought it used. I seem to remember him rebuilding the front mounted hydraulic pump and it was a vein pump. I think the brand was Henry.

I have a '58 model 350U with a Wagner Backhoe on it. I posted a picture on the Tractor Photos page a couple of years ago when I finished rebuilding it. These tractors and Hoes are dangerous unless you're on level ground. I think IH wanted in the business, and put these hoes on ag tractors which did not have the necessary weight to handle them. It's "suck up the seat" time when you're going around the side of a hill. I have a Freeman loader on the front.

International offered the Pippin and the Wagner backhoes and loaders as a factory mounted option on the International 300 Utility, introduced in 1955. There were backhoes being made before that but they were not available as IH factory mounted ewuipment. Somewhere I have a picture of a backhoe and loader (don"t know what brand) mounted on a International I-4 or I-6 which would have been probably early 50"s.

A neighbor told me about one he had in the 60's, was mostly (if not all) cable operated so it may have been farm built. He laid tile on 160 acres with it over a couple years he said. Then he sold it because it became very popular with the neighbors and never came back in working condition after they used it.

The article in Wikipedia credits JCB with the first TLB in '53, but I suspect it may have been written by a Brit, or at least a JCB fan. Wiki points out that the article is undocumented.

Betcha you're referring to a 350U if it had a white grille. Made in '57-'58 I believe.

Long Tractor May have been putting together Hoes in about 55. Most were derived from shovels and other loader type equipment and evolved. There was a 40something H in our area that had a home made hoe on it built in the early 50s that was way better than a #2 True Temper. Google it. JimN
