I am new to this site and i'm loooking for some advice. I have a 460 gas tractor, the screen over the hydraulic fluid filter freezes up causing no hydraulic pressure. I've been told that this somewhat of a common problem. Anyone have any ideas/advice.

Thanks

I'll add one concept to the others info. Putting heat to the Hytran with a dip stick style heater, and blankets over the casting will drive moisture out. A magnetic oil pan heater would also work. (with blankets) Keep the material away from the heaters just to be safe, but driving out the moisture would save many $ in Hytran fluid JimN

I should have clarified, I changed the hy tran fluid and filter about 2 months ago. I do get some ice in the rear. Is there a way to prevent the water/ice build up such as a larger breather?

The best thing to keep the water out is hard work.

The oil gets hot enough to steam the water out.

Next best thing is to keep it in a shed and make sure there is a good boot on the shift lever if you leave it sit outside.

Is this just to use to remove snow or do you use it in the summer also?

When you changed the fluid are you sure you got all the water out?

Can't believe it would build up that quick if it were clean 2 months ago.

Can't remember for sure but there are about 3 to 5 drains to drain all the old fluid out.

I pulled all three plugs and let it drain for a day but it's possible I missed soem ice build up. The tractor is used for snow removal in the winter and light work in the summer so the fluid probably doesn't get that heated up. Thanks for the replies.

Its only a common problem on the ones that have water in the rear end.

We have a 460 and 560 and I have never in 49 years seen ice on the screen.
