450D filter confusion

Decided since I was going through everything on the 450D, I may as well change all of the filters and fluids.
I called CIH and ordered the fuel filters, oil filter and the gaskets I needed.
The boxes came in a few weeks ago, but I was putting the 3 point back on it dad took off years ago. I have done very little with it and I plan to mow pasture with it this Summer.
Started going through the the boxes last night and there is this rubber washer about 3 inches in diameter and a 1/4 inch thick.
I do not see anyplace in the manual to tell me where it goes.
Anyone have any idea what it is used for?
Also, I plan to use 10W40 Shell Rotella T in it like I do the truck and other tractors. Think this will be ok? A friend says I should use straight 30W. I have always had good luck with the Shell and would like to use it since I have cases of the stuff.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey Bill, I hate to go against the grain here but that rubber washer might be the seal at the top of the water trap. If your 450d is anything like mine it has the large diameter oil filter housing, like six inch or so, and the seal for it is more like a big square O-ring. The water trap that hangs on the front end of the fuel filter housing has a round flat seal like the one you describe-I Think.

Unforgiven I think you are right. I looked at it last night and that seems the only place it can go. Thanks a million.
Now...I gotta figure out why it leaks oil out the throttle shaft opening on the injector pump. It stays full of oil, but it seeps/leaks when I run it.
Maybe I also need to rebuild/reseal that transfer pump on the back of the injector pump?
Thanks loads guys....be lost without you.

That is the oil filter seal so get out your pocket knife and dig the old out out of the grove and put that one in . As far as the oil goes shell is a good oild but as for myself i would not use it in a 450 D and stick with 30W seires 3 . The older engines were not designed for a multi. grade .

Hey vet, I need to put a seal kit in my 450 transfer pump, anything I really need to watch out for? The tractor runs fine and fuel pressure is fair, but the main housing is full of diesel. Had a horrible time finding the seal kit.

sounds like the oil filter gasket, some are not permenatly bonded to the filter. make sure the filter has a gasket on it, if it does have one, compare the sizes, if they are the same, maybe the manufacturer got a little bit tired that day and threw in a second one. Thats the only thing I can think of.
