The carborator on my super-c is leaking fuel and I am tired of putting up with this problem. Can I buy a repair kit or would I be better off buying a new or rebuilt carborator.

Thanks to all who replied, since I am not a good on carburetor man I am going to take your advice and when the weather warms up I will bite the bullet and buy a new one.
Don

Like someone already said, if the carb you have is a Carter, it's best to replace it with a Marvel-Schebler or a Zenith. Send me an e-mail.

If you are going the repair route, check the condition of the potmetal bowl for flat across where the bowl gasket is placed. Ours was warped where the 4 screws had been tightened too much. We used a piece of # 50 sandpaper on a flat surface, & ran the bowl across the paper 3 or 4 times. Then take a look to see how many more strokes were needed to bring it to level. Don't be afraid to set the float level more than once to get the fuel level right. We had to go 3 times to get it low enough.

Im probly going to get some flack but here I go anyway. I would just get a new one.

Your going to have to get some carb cleaner which is about $20 and then the kit plus you might have to get a new float which is another $25. By the time you add it all up your going to be at about $100 and even then you dont know if its going to fix the problem.

Have you worked on carbs before and know how to set them? Aint as easy as everyone says.

I have done the kit thing, carb cleaner, and float on mine and still the same leak.

Just get a new one and be done with it.

Don: In addition to what Jim said, I would add: If your Super C has a Carter carb, I personally, would get a Zenith or a Marvel-Scheibler replacement, either used (and rebuild it) or new. If you already have a Zenith, or even the Marvel-S., I would rebuild it. It seems the Carter, in the opinion of most, is a little inferior to the other two. Someone will disagree with that, but it is the opinion of most. Also, most feel the Zenith is probably the very best, but not by much, over the M-S. I have a Zenith on one and a M-S on another, and am very happy with both. mike

Repair kits are available here on this site. And from CaseIH. Make sure you take the numbers off of it when selecting a kit. The IH kits are pricy, but should include bushings and other items. JimN
