I've always been partial to my Uncle's farmall 766 because it handles tasks some 100 horsepower tractors cannot. My uncle also has a 4030 Deere which, in my opinion can't even come close to the power that old 766 has. I love that tractor.

I answered your question on these 2 tractors on the JD forum. I wanted to add something but was afraid it would get lost in the thread over there. According to the Nebraska test the 766 has 85 hp at rated speed vs 80 for the 4030. At standard PTO the 766 is still 85 hp and the 4030 has 77. This would probably be a noticeable difference on the bagger. If the difference is really dramatic you may want to check filters, injection timing, compression, etc on the Deere. I'm not trying to downplay the performance of the 766 but I know for a fact the JD 329 engine can perform very well also.

You answered it your self. No one on this forum would say different. The Dear price one pays for green is the primary value difference. Dropping the 2cylinder thinking put them on a far better path to efficiency. They have issues, but they are still in business. JimN
