Hey everyone,

I just purchased a 966 diesel. I was curious as to the exact hp, I think its around 120 but not sure. It was a great deal - 6500 and all it needs is a new seat and has a minor power steering leak... I need to know what is hp is and what website do you guys use for parts?

Thanks

Depends on the year.

The early ones were rated at roughly 100 hp; the later 966s turned faster and received a 105 hp sticker. This translates to about 85/90 horse down at the tires.

The only part I haven't been able to buy right thru CaseIH is that sound-cancelling mat under the seat frame. Everything else is still on the books.

Be sure and wear your ear protectors. :>)

GEJD: 100 hp would have been the rated hp when new, it could well be turning 120, I wont argue that. In my experience CaseIH is still just about the best place to find parts.

Without seeing tractor I'll not make a judgement call on the price you paid. I will tell you this, average looking tractors of this size can gobble up $15,000. in one awful hurry, if your going to turn it into a working tractor. I bought one of these new, ran it 15,000 hours and never heard tell of some of the repairs you see guys regularly discussing on this page, and on tractors with a 1/3 the hours mine had. I can only assume time is as much of a factor as wear and tear on some items. I'm not trying to be critical, just giving cold hard facts.

Yeah,

I think it all depends on the prior owner and if he kept it in good working order.

Some folks run 'em into the ground and then dump 'em'; some of us can't stand a speck of rust on a hood bolt. :>)

I have seen two 966 with chrome rad.sides and had "turbo" decals on the hood with a turbo charger. Is this a factory tractor or a add on equipment and what hp might it be?

Boy, I dunno Rich. Sure wasn't factory.

Kinda sounds like a hopped up puller. I avoid those like a morning case of the runs. :>)

Nothin" wrong with addin" a turbo, as long as ya don"t get carried away and start screwin" with the pump.

The only tractors I"ve ever seen with chrome on "em was at the pulls.
