I have a 1066 with a TA that I can't keep from leaking in the torque (clutch) housing at the PTO drive shaft that engages the clutch pressure plate. It leaks between the main clutch shaft and the hollow PTO drive shaft. A new seal will last a few months, then start leaking again. I have replaced the carrier bearing on the hollow shaft but did not help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

you could have the seals on the ta input shaft leaking pushing presure past the seal.

Well either the new bearing is not holding or the splines on the input at getting bad or the splines in the pressure plate have ware or you are damagen the seal when you put it in . Just how do you get the tractor back together ???? do you mount the clutch to the flywheel and fight it together or are you hanging the clutch assy. on the input and sliding the tractor back together . The propper way to put a farmall back together is to remove the pressure plate and the disk and depress the pressure plat fingers and lock them down with either thick washer or square nut or anything that will hold the release fingers down then place the pressure plat on the PTO input shaft then the disc on the transmission in put slide the tractor back together then after the bolts are all in and tight then you go up thru the inspection plate and bolt up the clutch and make sure that you remove ALL the hold down pices.

Maybe a far-fetched question but is this how I will have to do the clutch on my Dad's little Cub? Done a lot of cars and PUs but never a tractor. Always bolted everthing up on the flywheel on the cars and PUs.

I have always replaced the pressure plate and reattached the tractor together in the way you said. This has gone on for several years and with new pressure plates, clutch discs, and new hollow shafts and bearings. I have worked on other 66 and 86 International tractors and have never had this problem before.

Make sure the seal is at the correct depth. I had a machine shop make a tool to install them. It has been several years but I think it is 9/32. Your local dealer will have the spec if you dont have a service manual.
