I am going to overhaul my super M. What kind of horsepower gain do you get from going to the oversized pistons? Should be able to woop up on my neighbors 3020!!!!

get them 4.125 pistons , get that compression up to 225 lbs cylinder pressure with domes , open up that carburetor and put a 450 head on it and you have it even if he tweaks the pump . Chad has those high domes.

If 3020 is a diesel and at factory settings you may get close but all he has too do is tweak the pump a little and he is gone.

That 3020 is rated at about 65 HP from the factory. Putting the 4 1/8" pistons in your super M will get you real close to that figure. A little more tweaking will put the Super M out in front of the Deere.

Do you still want to farm with this M? Wooping up on a 3020 with an M - my favorite tractor - is a good challenge. Make sure it"s got the later model rear end bearings since you"ll be making 560 horsepower. You"d probably want some major carb work and electronic ignition. A 450 cam and 450 LP head, maybe plane the head a little and a three-angle valve job. A custom cam and revised firing order would be next.
Have fun!

How do you do that and what is the benefit?

The lobe sequence on the new cam takes care of the new firing order for you. All you do, is change the plug wires around to match. Why? Two reasons, usually: either gives each cylinder a bigger gulp of fuel/air mix, or, improves the harmonics in the crankshaft to give the machine longer life at higher rpms. Or both. mike
