I managed to free up a stuck diff. lock system by spraying penetrating oil between the lever and the diff case and tapping the pedal. Now I have the reverse issue - it will not dis-engage. I took the rod loose from the pedal and tapped on the lever but it would NOT release the diff lock. I don"t have a good schematic showing what the diff. lock fork engages to lock the diff. How much force (torque) could I apply to the lever without causing an issue. I will try to apply a vibratory load to the lever next to see if it breaks anything loose. Anyone else faced with the same concern and fixed or have any suggestions?

The issue is resolved - the rod was bent (about 80 degrees; parts book does show a slight bend). I took the rod loose at the pedal and hammered the lever back into the dis-engaged position (also verified by a drive). I will now straighten and strengthen the rod, reinstall and continue to operate the diff lock to reduce some of the friction.

On further inspection, part of my issue is also due to the actuating rod clearance to the auxil- iary valve housing; it is against it. I will take off the rod and bend it to get more clear-
ance, adjust the rod to the full length, stretch the pedal return spring to the max. and see if I can then lift the pedal (while turning left to right). Otherwise, I"ll still keep trying to break it loose to the dis-engaged position by hitting the shaft lever. Stay tuned.

Hi, Mich, may be the shaft is stuck, by rust, in the housing. It have a O ring each side of the housing but externaly. You can't, spray any loose nut on the shaft, because the O rings. You may have to lift the hydrolic cover for access the shaft. Bernard le mécano Québec Canada

My 684 was the same way.Sometimes it will stick. While moving,I lift up on the pedal and turn the steering wheel both directions. It has never failed to come up this way.
