Super M Gas flow problem

Recently changed the sediment bowl and put a new clear fuel filter between the gas tank and the carb. I checked the gas line and its clean. Opened the valve under the tank and gas flowed great. Added the sediment bowl and opened the valve and gas barely trickled out, eventually filled the bowl and I could see very little gas flowing thru the clear filter. Loosened the sedimnet bowl a bit and gas flowed great..tighten the bowl snug under the valve and gas barely ran. Almost seems like an air lock. Took the gas cap off, no change. I'm puzzled..tractor runs great for a bit then runs out of gas. What am I mising?

I have a B that ran like #$#@ untill I got rid of the inline filter. Runs great now. Before that, I thought I should put a inline filter on my Super M, but not now. Sometimes, simple is best.

What you are describing is perfectly normal. I observe the same thing whenever I remove and clean that glass bowl. I guess you could say there is sort of an airlock, but it really isn't. It's just that the carburetor fuel bowl is full, the float is holding the needle valve closed, and there is no place for any gasoline to go. If you were to remove the drain plug, or open the fuel drain petcock on the carb, you would have immediate fuel flow, and the sediment bowl would fill up.

Well first off in-line fuel filters and gravity flow fuel system just PLAIN don't work unless the filter is made for a non fuel pump type system. So half your problem is probably the in-line filter you put on. As far as the sediment bowl its like Allan says its normal for it to do that if the carb is full of gas the the float is holding the needle closed. This that I'm going to tell you is a true story.
Guy up the road called me this summer with that same type problem you have. He had an in-line fuel filter on his B. I got there looked at it and removed the filter and threw it on the back of my truck. His tractor has run just great ever since. Easies 12 pack I have ever got.

I use them when there is junk in the tank as the screen in the sediment bowl doesent get everything. I get the FRAM filters and using rubber hose so the filter is horizontal or even slightly down position and they work just fine easy to change.

Well so far I have never had any luck with them. Ya they will work for a little while but not for long or at least thats how its always been for me

Most likely the strainer in the carb fuel inlet is partially plugged. Or possibly the carb float is hanging up.

Remove the drain plug at the bottom of the carb bowl. Then open the shutoff at the sediment bulb. A good working carburetor will flow a solid, continuous stream of gas out of the bowl drain.

But if gas just dribbles out of the drain, remove and clean the inlet screen (it's behind the fuel line inlet fitting).

If the inlet screen is OK, drop the carb float bowl and be looking for a sticky float or junk caught in the float valve.

Yes you can have an air lock i would loosen the fitting at the carb and let the gas run and see how much flow you have mite need to drain the tank and remove the sediment assy then blow out the passages as the intake can get pugged it will let some gas thru but not enough flow to keep carb full.

If you tighten the bowl to much,it will warp and reduce fuel flow, replace gasket and do not over tighten the bowl.I have replaced all my sediment bowls with 90 degree fittings,on/off valves, and inline fuel filters.

Your sediment bowl thingy is normal; if that needle is closed, there won't be any flow. Look downstream from there.

You sure the needle/seat and float are all opening as they should?
