The picture you posted showed what looked like brand new rear chains. Where can a person get a set of those?

Thanks, Gene

Try tirechains dot com

I've purchased through them before and was very happy. Good web site with prices and shipping info.

I made a set for my 14.9 x 28's...

bought a bucket of chain, some of those split links.

cost me about 150$ less. good rainy or snowy day project.

no comparison draging a big tree out across snow and ice with the chains.

those chains appear to be the Peerless Duo-Trac brand..Peerless has a web site that should help...I put a set on my WD45 last winter, and the difference between the Duo-Trac and straight chains was unreal...Suprisingly, the Duo-Tracs also rode smoother than my old chains, I'm spoiled..

I got those chains at tirechain.com a few years ago and had 'em shipped all the way out here. Think they are located back in PA or someplace like that?

Just be sure to get the double linked kind so the cross-links won't drop down between the tractor tire lugs.

Kinda expensive, but they sure do the trick.
Little tractor hasn't been hung up on the ice since. :>)

Mine are very similar, but have one big ring in the center of the double cross bars, very effective, but also very rough riding on a solid surface. I found mine at a consignment auction. They were laying all piled up, and the auctioneer did'nt know what they would fit, so I took a chance, think I paid something like $25. Not only are they a perfect fit, I don't think they had ever been used.

Oh heck, been a long time ago, but I know it was somewhere around $350 after shipping; Maybe more like $370.

Bad part was that I had bought a set of single lug chains first. Just didn't work on those new tires and I had just wasted that sum.

I just looked them up. $307 for the one style and what they call the "V bar" was $496. I didn't check to see what shipping would be. They had them in stock, ones that would fit my Super H or M. Can't afford them just now. Maybe someday.

Gene, check with your local county or state road dept. I got all the set of chains I have from them. I would buy to or 3 sets from them and then rebuild them to fit on my tractors. It cost me less them $50 and I now have to good sets of chains for my tractors. The road dept use them till one or 2 of the cross chains brake and then they just scrap them.

Hi Rich, Were these chains like they would use on their snow plow trucks?

Some where but some where off of the graders. I have 2 or 3 types of cross chains on the sets I made some are single and some are double cross over type. Also one has a center chain and that one works the best at least for me it does

Gene,

For what it is worth, the only place they really help is on the ice.

The biggest improvement came when I added the calcium in the tires and dropped the tire pressure down to around 12 or 13 lbs.

We have about 3" of solid ice still. The sleet, snow and freezing rain we had has thawed and refrozen so many times it is just like concrete!

I went to help a neighbor feed big bales yesteday morning. I Went over a hill to place one bale and couldn't get back up. I tried about 10 times and it looked like I was going to have to leave the old 706 down there. There was no other way out of this little patch. Another neighbor with a big front wheel assist John Deere pulled me out. He stayed up on the level and 40' of chain to reach me. It was real sad to see that green tractor pulling the red one. Sometimes you just have to swallow your pride though. We could use the chains down here. You still have ice Old?
