Have problem with tractor backfiring when you put the trottle down. Someone at the parts store said it is probably the governor? If so I am looking for a rebuilt governor for a 460 Gas International Tractor. Any help would be appreciated.

Tina,
I do not know how long you have had this tractor, Farmalls backfire on deceleration. If it was a modern car (or some new tractors) it would have a anti backfire valve, or a decel valve controlling the fuel injection shutoff. I recommend checking the richness of the Idle mixture. If it is too rich it will allow excessive backfire. Some is normal. If it changed radically then a bad distributor, or other issues may be present. JimN

Don't forget, a cracked exhaust manifold or blown exhaust gasket can
cause "fackfiring" 'cause of air being admitted to the HOT exhaust mixture.

Been my expierence to pretty much know what you need before you start buying parts. points and timing sounds like a safe bet to start with.

I would look at the timeing, points, plugs and the fuel system before I went to governor for backfireing . Might think about changing part stores also. Just my 2 cent. Ken B
