Hey guys,
I need to know if this tractor could possibly be a Super H or if it is just an H with Super decals. I was wondering since it has the battery under the fuel tank. I added a picture of the battery box, and will try to get some more pics later. I am restoring this tractor for a fellow and would like to know what it actually is so I can order the proper decals. It does have the M&W Live Hydraulics (and as such has a decal for it), I was able to have the "Live Hydraulics" decal reproduced so that is one little bit extra now done, but I would really like to know what model it really is.
Thanks
Adam

Probably one of th simplest ways to tell whether your tractor is an H or a super H is to check the front hood emblem. If it is a black and polished steel emblem bearing FARMALL it is a regulear H produced from 1939-1952 and if it has the International Harvester logo plaque on it it is a super H produced from 1953-1954

I've seen a few of those changes as well. Go by what is written in CAST.

A super H serial number will have a prefix of SH. An H serial number will have a prefix of FBH. Also, on the engine block, behind the oil filter, the super H will have C-164. The H will have just a part number.

Does it have the fast 4th gear? The super-H has the fast 4th.

Its either a real late H or SH. If the serial tags still there and it has 6 digit serial # its a H. If it has 5 digits or less its a SH. Not counting any letters.

I better back up a little,if serial # ended in X 1 you could call the one another digit. Try this if serial # is 391358 or higher it would be a H. If serial # is between 501 and 19233 it would be a SH.

tractorfan: There were Hs as early as 51 with IH disk brakes. My dad had one he bought new in 51, and all it's brake parts would interchange with our 300.

The only true test will be serial numbers, casting codes, engine cubic inch cast on block behind oil filter of SH, etc. One thing I've learned with letter series Farmalls, not all upgrades occured at model change to supers.

Some of the late 53 H's had disc brakes on them too.My neighbor has one.The serial number is like 393 or394???. Probably built during the last few weeks before the Supers were introduced. John.
