1949 Farmall-H. I have a knocking sound in fourth gear and grinding sound in fifth gear. I have pulled the top plate off the transmisson and with my hand the fourth and fifth speed sliding gear will wabble around on the main shaft. all gears look ok and no teeth chipped or broken.I need someone to tell me how to remove the shift so i can change the gear.
thanks

Cowman is correct, Remove the belly pump, clutch and clutch shaft, then the front trans bearing comes out the front with the constant mesh gear on it, and the female splines for fifth. There are roller bearings inbetween the two shafts. The best is to suspend some cloth under it while removing the shaft to katch the rollers. (they may be the problem) or the fourth fifth slider may be toast. Good luck. A book is very important on this for reference and assembly. JimN

There is a pilot bearing on the stub shaft that comes in from the front. Maybe that will fix your problem.
