I'm putting new head gaskets in a '95 Chevy V6. Oil got into the water and left a bunch of brown sludge that I would like to clean out. I have flushed it twice, but there is still a lot of crud in the system. Any ideas ?

Thanks

Greg

I don"t know what will work best but I think I"d try an automatic dishwashing detergent because they don"t foam. You have an aluminum intake manifold at least on this, so I"d be careful with caustics.

Did you try the heavy duty commercial flushes? I don"t remember the brand, but there used to be a dry radiator flush in a can that was granular that worked good. I"ve never found that the liquid flushes do anything except lighten my wallet.

Use sodium hydroxide. (lye)If there is no aluminum involved. It will cut the crud and clean the radiator and block. You will need to put on new hoses as it will destroy rubber. You should anyway because the oil will make them rotten too.

I've alwys used vinagar to clean out cooling systems. I fill it with 100% vinagar and run them till good and warm, let cool and drain then flush with water. So far it has always worked on every thing I have tried it on

Palmolive, or Dawn dish soap. About 3tbl spoons, run and then flush (kinda foamy) JimN
