Howdy, Boys: Who makes 3-point hitches for H's and M's besides Saginaw? I have heard of one called a Cornhusker; wonder if they are still in business? Any others currently manfactured? Just wondering what my options are, although I keep hearing the Saginaw is the best. Thanks in advance. mike

I put the Saginaw on my H, it lets me use the original swinging drawbar. Works great. I think it is a better design than a lot of original equipment stuff.

i bought a saginaw last year for my m. it is well built piece of equipment. it bolts right on to your present hitch, you can leave the swinging drawbar on, really well crafted.

Get a tough one. in reply to City-Boy McCoy, 01-26-2007 16:13:42
I don't have any experience with the brands that have been mentioned in this thread. I do have experience, however with a 3pt hitch that my Dad bought several years ago. It's on my Farmall M, and while it's made the tractor more useful, it's a piece of junk that I've re-inforced, re-built, and re-designed over the years in an effort to make it work like it should.

Buy a 3pt hitch that is stronger than you think it needs to be. Sooner or later you will hitch something to it that nearly balances your tractor on its rear wheels. With two cylinders, or even one big one (mine's now running a 4" cylinder) you can pick up and move some huge loads. Get one that's over-built and ready for abuse. Mine does not allow the use of any part of the original drawbar, and I wish it did.

Have a 30 year old Saginaw that has seen a lot of hard use, hundreds of hours with 4 row cultivator for one thing and it is still good as new except for one cracked weld.

I have a Worksaver 3 point for my H. It is built heavy enough for anything I'm going to pick up. And actually, two 2" cylinders would be plenty, picking up much over 500# makes the front end a little light.

I think that the Saginaw is probably a better bet, since you get to keep the original drawbar. The aftermarket drawbars are kind of flimsy.

Don"t know anything about them, but I know some people have talked about Worksaver. I think they are a little cheaper than Saginaw.

Call Mike at Steel Wheel Ranch -- 785-548-7437. I don't remember the brand. They use only one cylinder, Saginaw has two, I'm not sure two are necessary, but they sell the same model for the 450. Mike's does not use the IH drawbar, but has it's own, I don't think you can use the sliding part. I have bought a lot of stuff from Mike, but for 3-points I use Saginaw. I doubt if you can ever wear one out.

We have a cornhusker 3-point on our 544. It is junk in my opinion. Too wobbly to do much good, I suppose a person could fabricate some sway limiters to make it better... but even then it's not built as strong as the Saginaw. I tried a bale fork on it and it puts a bow in the main cross tube, didn't bend it - but if I were to hit a bump or something it probably would.

Also have run a 966 with the Cornhusker on it, not impressed.

Go with the overbuilt Saginaw.
