Thanks to advice from this site my 706 lights work for the first time in years. New switch, fuse holder and lots of cleaning.

I have another question though. The red rear light. The back of the sealed beam has a red film covering it, with a clear bulb that illuminates the back and gives. a red appearance.
Heat from the bulb and 30+ years have burned the film off in a circle right under the bulb. Anything to paint on there or coat it with to restore that look? Not really necessary but would be neat to restore it.

Thanks, Gene

Go with the glass paint/stain from a hobby store. It will let the light through better than other types of paint.

Perhaps it is like my rear work/tail light on my IH2444.
It has a clear sealed beam worklight and behind that is a seperate 1156 or somesuch bulb that reflects off the red lining in the light housing and will make the sealed beam look red. with the sealed beam off of course :) It is a dual purpose running and work light in one housing.

I just painted mine with red Rustoleum about 1 yr ago. still looks red, but I have not looked inside either.

If your looking for a cheap way out any craft store should have glass paint. You can paint the lense and i think you can even paint a clear bulb with some of the stuff. I"ve also seen some colored report covers and overhead projector slide material at the office supply store that maybe could be cut and fitted behind the lense. May want to test this stuff to be sure it doesnt melt from the bulb heat though.

GeneP - you can get a replacement sealed beam with the red lens for your rear facing light by stopping in at your friendly NAPA dealer. Take your old light to insure getting the correct P/N. The light is about $37 as I remember but I'm sure it's cheaper than what your Case IH can furnish.

Thanks for the info. I have also seen model paint used to paint tail light lenses on model cars. It is sort of a clear red, but not sure it would stand up to the heat.

Thanks again, Gene
