Haven't been around in a while. Mainly because I don't have enough money to breath, much less think about working on a tractor.

*sigh*

Maybe in a few months. Just wanted to say hi, and that I haven't disappeared or anything.

Mike, an H is a great tractor. I have one. There are things you can do that don"t cost money. Do you have it all cleaned up? Got the sheet metal off? Clean out the sediment bowl, that"s free!

I've got to buy the material to put the shelves up in the garage to get the boxes off the floor so I have a place to put it. And I want to build a work bench. So, first things first. I don't even have it home yet! :)

Hi Mike, good to hear from ya lots of guys wondering what you been up to. Don't fret on not having any money to work on your H. It will get done someday and as long as you have it, that is another one that is not going to the scrap yard. I am facing a similiar situation with my H. All the machine work done on motor but no money to buy the overhaul kit. Dang car troubles 8(

No, nothing so extreme. I'll be set in the U.S. for a couple of years. I already did plenty of time over Iraq. Although, I did make Sailor of the Year for my command this year. Did it in 6 months! I just wish it came with a bonus, because I'm broke moving into this house and trying to get these projects done... which is why I have no money for my H. Too bad, because I really wanted it done by this summer so I could enjoy it.

My 19 year old leaves for Great lakes in 7 days for basic. My wife has been on a navy bulletin board and learned quite a bit. Any tips for him?
How long you been in.

I had to unexpectly spend (borrow) $8,000 for a new well so I know the broke feeling. My Super H got put on hold. I had bought some parts for my 706 about 8 months ago so I am working on that project (fixing the lighting system). I have about $100 a month I hide from the wife to play with, problem is I just have too many things to spend it on.

Hello Gene,
Tell your son to be careful what he volunteers for. When I went to San Antonio for basic training, the first night there one of the questions the T.I. asked was if there were any bowlers that the flight was going to have a bowling team. He managed to recruit four eager volunteers for the "bowling" team and they spent a few hours that night practising up on their bowling skills by scrubbing out the toilets. Sure was glad that I did as my uncle had advised and didn't volunteer for anything.

"BOWLers" LOL That's great! I'll have to remember that!

Of course I don't have to use trickery. I just tell them "We have sh**ers to clean! You, you, and you get busy. I'll make it worth your while."
Then I comp them with some time off.

But it's been a while since I've had to lead a work detail like that.

15 years in March.

I don't have any specific tips for your son. Just tell him to understand that boot camp isn't the Navy. It's designed to introduce you to a military lifestyle. He will be put through things that will test his resolve and perserverance. They won't make sense, but he should trust the process, and know that once he completes it, he has really accomplished something!

If he has any specific questions, feel free to e-mail me
