im rebuilding a super a (im sure alot of you already know as i have asked sever questions, but please bear with me.)

i have 2 questions

1. i am looking for the front crank pulley seal. the one with a wear ring that goes on the pulley to repair the worn in groove. my ih dealer says they only list the seal without a ring. does anyone have the part number for the one with the wear ring, and where to buy it?

2. im replacing the 2 freeze plugs on the back of the block with new ones. they are nothing like the brass ones im used to with chevys and such. they are bowl shaped. which way does the highest point in the middle of the bowl point, in the block or out of the block. hope this diagram goes through.

outside = ) or outside = (

() is supposed to = how its supposed to be.

and how do you recomend installing it? i often use the yellow trim adhesave on chevy freeze plugs, but what about these?

thanks for any and all help

Bryan

thanks so much for the replys. ive ordered the seal with spedi sleave off ebay.

but next question is about the freeze plug, it makes sense about which side goes out now, but what kind of sealer? the age old "blue glue" or the orange or black rtv? or the yellow trim adhesave "called snot glue by some" what the general opinion about this

If your SA uses the same motor as a SC (C-123), the seal and sleeve are CHN pn 378193R91. The local dealer had it in stock.

The plugs are 2" and 1 5/8" shallow frost plugs on my motor. Convex side out.

I think you need a speedi-sleeve to cover the groove on the damper pulley. Case/IH should have
them or your local NAPA store. The sleeve and seal come in a kit. I used neoprene freeze plugs that you tighten with a wrench. Hal

Question 1 - I've never seen one come with a "wear ring". I think you are looking for what I call a Speedi-Sleeve. Check with a machine shop, they should be able to order one to fit over your crank pulley. Chicago Rawhide used to sell them for one, I think there are others too. You can also replace the pulley with a new one.

Question 2 - I always put them in with the convex side out. I guess it's outside = (
I use a little gasket sealer on them and then tap it to expand it until it's tight. I don't know if it's the right way, but it seemed to work for me.

By the way, only one is a "freeze plug". The other is at the rear end of the camshaft.
