Going to redo the hydro unit on 52 Super C. Have it off tractor with rocker arms off, bottom plate off and releife valves loosened so I can move pistons. THe head is time froze/welded to the block. Any ideas to get it unstuck. I don't have any help and I'm scared to hit it very hard with hammer. Oak block and bigger hammer? Maybe I'm being too carefull. Thanks for any comments.

It's probably not froze or welded. I thought mine was impossible until I used a thin rigid paint scraper and very carefully tapped it in between the head and block. It will come loose, just be careful and don't gouge the metal.

I would find a part of the head the prottrudes from the block and do like you said, whack it with a hammer and piece of oak. I would use a 2lb sledge and start off with a decent whack. Then I would do it to the other end and go back and forth repeatedly. With time and increasing strength in blows it should loosen it up. Dont get too crazy with the hammer!! Make sure u arent missing some hardware to remove.
