What is the size of belt so the alternator will fit under the hood? Also is there any special brackets needed?

Use the ac alterantor and your genny pulley you will have to drill and tap the alternator and put a bolt in the end to hold pulley on use a 3/8,s inch bolt. Then use about the same belt as with the genny. You can adjust the belt no problem. Might even use same bracket as the genny to suport aternator.

The Hitachi conversion that Hal recommended is easy, fairly inexpensive and works well. We did one of our H's last year and it worked great all season.

No more slow cranking, dim lights or dead batteries!

There is a photo of a Delco mounted on an H over in the Parts and Pieces gallery. I apologize for not knowing the name of the person who originally put this on the forum.

don't know who posted the picture - but that is mine. i use an idler set-up as shown in the pic. makes it very easy to 1) tuck the alt up thight and 2) keep the belt properly tensioned. have put this set-up on several "H" 's and they work super. wh from cullman al. AND thanks to the person that moved the picture to here.

I converted my 1951 H to 12 volt using a Hitachi #14231 which is smaller then the Delco 10SI which most people try to convert with. The Hitachi fits just fine and you can use the existing generator belt already on the tractor by turning the generator bracket upside down and using spacers to position the alternator. Send me an email and I'll send a reply back which contains everything I did in my conversion. I have provided it to numerous folks who were converting from 6 to 12 volts. Hope this helps, Hal.

Cliff, They were used on 1978 thru 1980 Nissan 620 and 720 pick-ups with a 2 liter engine. Mine was a new rebuilt and cost $50 plus a $10 core at O'Rielly's Auto Parts here in Missouri. Hope this helps. Hal

I was able to use a standard delco-remy but I had to make my own brackets and take a hacksaw to both sides of the alternator. It wasn"t as bad as it sounds and works fine. Not sure what I used for a belt. If I have time I will try and check it out for ya. This was for my W-4 which I am sure would have very similar clearances. Rod

you have to make and use the rite alt and bracket to avoid not cutting hood then measure the length for a belt. the bracket you make will determine belt length also size of the pulley on the alt.
