Hi, got a used 1086, it has a switch on the floor by your right heel, the switch is like a dimmer switch on the old auto headlights. Is this for a differential lock? If so can someone explain how it works. I can figure it all out electricaly, but what happens inside when the solenoid is energized. Is it common for these not to work? And how big of a deal is it to fix them?

Thanks, Emhoff

Yes its a switch about like the old M starter switch. You hold it down to engage a hydraulic valve which applies pressure to the diff. lock that is mounted outside of the right brake. It hooks the two diff. parts together through a hollow shaft. As soon as you release the button it releases the diff. lock.

To elaborate a little more, only the later ones were electrical, the early 86,s and all the 66,s with diff. locks had a direct petal to the diff. lock valve.
