The brakes need took apart and new orings on the brake pistons. they get old and hard and let air in to the piston cavity. bleeding them will probably fix them only temporarily. Of course look at all the brake discs while you are in there. The orings are about a 99 % chance of fixing. The only other thing it can be is the orifice on the master cylinder inlet fitting.

I'd say your 1086 needs new brakes.

Its possible it has air in the system but more likely needs new brake discs.

There is a bleader on the top of the drum simular to a bleader on auto brakes. You can try bleading to see if this helps.

Gary, let me elaberate on this a little, when it stop the wheels lock-up. It is not like it just starts to slow you down to a stop.

Thanks, Emhoff

Yeah they will do that.

The disc are wore and have a lot of play in them because they are thin.

So when you push the brakes it takes awhile for it to get enough oil to compress every thing to stop it.

It locks up because you are steel on steel in the brake drums.

Once you stop it the first time after starting is it ok till it sets for awhile again?

By the way hold on to your hat when you price those brake disc.

Talk to a mechanic before installing yourself also. A couple of dos and don'ts to install.

Gary
