Which battery post do you use to jump start 806 with dual batteries?

Well, here is what I had to do. My tractor has 2 6V batteries. I had to hook positive to the clutch side battery and negative to brake side battery. I will admit that I had some sparks when I tried any other hook-up. I am up and running again, maybe I won't be as carless the next time to leave the key on. Thanks everyone for the advice.

If its all hooked up like factory yet , the left front post will be 12V pos. and ground to the tractor chassis.

Hugh, Wouldn't it be the same at the starter terminal though? Either way they are hooked it still puts 12volt at the starter terminal.

Harlen: No question, and I guess that would be the best advice for all situations, hook positive to the positive lead to starter and negative to negative that has ground strap to the frame. My concern was being sure he was taking in the entire 12 volt system rather than one 6 volt battery.

I guess if one hooked to a single 6 volt battery, and both 6 volt batteries had some charge, the worst you may do is put 18 volts to the starter. years ago we never hesitated to hook 12 volt up to jump the old 6 volt Farmalls. I know numerous guys that never hesitated to put 24 volts to those 6 cylinder diesels. I'm not sure folks should be trying that on the newer tractors with digital everything and sensors galore.

No,

If you hook to the wrong positive, you are jumping a 6V battery with a 12V. 6 volt batteries are hooked in series not parallel.

Doyle: Is the 806 factory with two 6 volt batteries in series or has it been changed to two 12 volt batteries parallel, that does make a difference. Amo's advice is correct for two 12 volt parallel but not for 6 volt in series. Two 6 volt in series must be connected positive to positive at terminal going to starter and negative to negative at terminal going to ground.

What vehicle are you using as a source of power on this jump start? If your jump starting that big diesel with a single battery 12 volt system as in a pickup, usually you have to let the truck alternator put some charge in the tractor batteries, for 10 to 15 min. If your tractor batteries are quite low the pickup battery will just not have what it takes.

Either one would work, but the positave that attaches to the starter would be best. Then ground on the same battery neg post or on the frame.
