Farmall H with no option code

I have a Farmall H serial number 134079 with no option code after it. Not even a generic X1 gasoline model although I know it is a distillate or kerosene model based on the head, carb, and starter tank. I looked in Guy Fay's book and no mention of tractors being sent out without option codes. Did they just forget at the factory or was this a standard practice for some reason? Just curious.

My '42 H distillate has no option code on it, but my Dad's '42 H has the suffix X3B (kerosene, 5000 foot altitude).

Your tractor is a distillate model. The distillate engine was considered to be standard equipment, thus it has no options, so there are no option codes. Neither my 1940 H, or 1940 M have any option codes.

RustyFarmall,

Thanks for the answer. That is interesting since they had the X3 for kerosene and the X17 for distillate. I have heard of the X3 before but never come across a X17 (first I have heard of it was in Guy Fay's book)

But it does make sense as I know the early tractors were commonly Distillate until gas became cheaper, so a no option code for distillate seems obvious in hindsight.

Thanks again to all that responded.

My '49 W6 also has no option code. It is a distillate model, carb, head, starting tank.
Maybe the "code stamper guy" was sick that day!!!!! !!!!! !

I think it was standard practice at least on the early models. I have a 41 distillate or kerosene H with no suffix. IH started using the X1 gasoline only code in 1940, I don't know if they had gas engines without that code prior to that time. Also, the suffixes were more common on the H and M than the A or B. As general rule, unless it is a very early model, if an H or M has no X1 code, it is either distillate or kerosene. Now someone will respond that he has a 39-40-41 H or M with an A or B suffix -- hope he does.
