I have a set of plans for a 3pt that you can build in your price range

Here is the 3PH I made for my C. I tallied all the cost including the cyl and it was 271.00 I wouldn't say that it would work for an M, a bigger ytactor requires bigger heavier steel, but it works great on my C

Nat, good looking and sanitary job... Looks like you have used the independant cylinder as I have designed for Shawn SC. I also removed his belt pulley assembly, don't need it for our purposes.

Nat: Very neat job, my estimate very functional as well. You didn't fool around with those pull rods to the front rockshafts, and that is good. That hydraulic cylinder will take twice the lift of the pull rods. I recognise the Ford-Fergie lower links. I've been using these on my 130 and 140 hitches. I'm going to convert my 130 to hydraulic valve and remote cylinder, when the weather warms up.

Again, very good fabrication, you have something to be proud of.

I have used the links and ends from truck steering tierods and drag links for lift arms, they are easy to work with and flex in every direction but length. I used a truck linkage power steering two way cylinder on the right hand link rod to giv my hitch a power tilt. (worked very well). JimN

Here is a couple that are in the price range of $500 to $600 w/out hydraulic cylinders. If they can build these for this price you can build them for at least 1/2 their price... As they need to make a profit and pay labor..

If you shop around for the materials that you will need, find good used hydraulic cylinder(rebuildable, most just need need seals on piston and wipers) Need a cutting torch, welder, time and can weld you should beable to do it. HTH

I have built 3--- 3pt setups so far and don't have more than $150 ea one. In the process of building one for Son's SC. I have posted a pic of one I built for an Allis Chalmer C in the Tractor Talk forum---thread by Uncle on Photo posting multi. pic.s..Good luck and have fun..

Don`t forget the quality of the steel in the Saginaw 3 point. Much better steel then your run of the mill scrap yards..... ..... ...Boyd

I don't understand your thinking on size of lift arms, strength is in the side not flat. All the commercially built ones I have looked at are not 1 inch thick stock!!! Person just need to shop around for right price on iron, even dicker on the price..you might be surpriced!! I do not know where everyone is buying their iron, but if they are charging you those prices they are hosing you and not even giving you a kiss. I guess I am spoiled since our local scrap yards re-cycle rather than just ship everything to China. I also check with machine shops looking in their throw away area.

All the material does not have to be brand new. If you have a scrap yard close, look for materials you need, don't get in a hurry. I just picked up a piece of 6ft 3x3x1/2 month ago @ $0.15 a lb.and a match pair of cylinders for same price.

Keith & Shawn

PS. Hugh that hitch setup on the Allis C. is made out of heavier material than you think!!!

Keith: I think you'll find building 3 point that will stand up to a M requires something a bit more rugged than you put into a hitch for a SC. As far as I'm concerned you cant touch an H-M 3 point for the price Saginaw builds them. Just look at your photos, that's damn rugged steel. I'd be willing to bet those lower links are cold roll steel as well. Did you ever buy a 3/4 x 4 bar of that?

I priced a bar of that for the lower links I was going to make for my fast hitch and a 1"X3" flat stock 2 foot long was almost $90!!! Our steel shop around here is high tho, but still that just the tip of the iceberg for a true 3 point =\

Jay: I bought a bunch of it 15 years ago for making fast hitch forks 1-1/8 x 3, I've forgotten the exact price but it was about 3 times the price of mild steel. I was at a steel yard last summer, he was letting me brouse through the odds and ends, and I stumbled across some cold roll, 1-1/8 x 3 about 3' long. Usually they'll gve you a deal on those odds and ends, not this guy it was $60. for that one piece.

Keith, the people that build them commercially can usually get some pretty good quantity discounts on raw materials. The average joe that wants to build just one cannot get those discounts, and will usually end up paying more for the materials than what a complete-ready to go unit could be purchased for.

If you can build it with used materials that you already have, and don't count your labor, you can do it for less.

Rusty, when ever I build for myself or Shawn, I never count labor. When I build something for myself I always find the best prices, dicker on new materials. I am trying to same a dime not time so I pickup supplies when ever I see them at the right price. And I am not building tell sell. Also I would rather build what I need than buy. I like the feeling of accomplishment when the job is done.

Keith & Shawn

PS. Rusty we are about ready to shoot some paint on Shawn's SC. Will be posting pic.s before and after.. Take back "we" Shawn and Sheana are going to paint it..:>)

James: What hydraulic equipment does the M currently have? I don't think you'll make it on $300. even if the M has belly pump with the one single action dump valve.

Even at salvage yards lower links are going to run $125., top link $35., cylinder will spoil better part of $100., vertical links $60. Then you've got a rear rockshaft, plus fabrication. The rear rockshaft will be the difficult part, finding one the right width to adapt and mount to chassis, and I haven't even mentioned plumbing.

I've built a few hitches this past summer for little offset Farmalls that already had rear rockshafts. One of the problems I encountered was scrap yard 3 point parts were just that, scrap. I found I could buy new after market lower, vertical a top links for very little more money.

Here is what I see, your going to come within $150. of the cost of a new Saginaw hitch, yet you will have a piece of cobled up junk. The Super A, 100, 130 and 140 are quite different, NO ONE currently builds a good hitch for those tractors.
