I have had my Int. B 414 for two years now. I use it almost every weekend. After a cold snap for a few days I went out to start up the tractor. It started right away but stopped, I tried again but it was slow turning and started to buzz at solinoid. I assumed that the battery was low so I charged for 6 hours (12.65 v) when finished. I cleaned the ground and all positive ends and replaced the battery. Nothing but buzzing. I put the tester on and it measured 11.65 v at altenator and solinoid. No reading at cranking motor. What is wrong. Battery? Solinoid? Cranking motor? It worked great until this. Any information would be great.
Thanks Paul Nova Scotia Canada

This is a gas tractor. It does not turn over. The solinoid just chatters then buzzes. The battery is old but was working fine until now. Any ideas?
Thanks

Paul: Is that B-414 gas or diesel? This sounds like a classic case of poor battery cables and ends. Those cables should be 00 guage with soldered on ends. Even broken caseing on the cable will loose current.

You say battery as singular, if the 414 is diesel it should have dual batteries or at least equal cranking amps. If you been cranking that tractor and it's diesel for two years now, and if it is and has been shy on cranking amps, I suspect your battery is done. Like Jim said, it has voltage but does it have cranking amps?

When you finish charging that battery take a hydrometer and measure the specific gravity of each battery cell. They should read around 1.250
and be within a few points of one another. If one cell reads 1.150 get a new battery. Hal

get a dc amp probe and measure the amps it's pulling while cranking

A battery not under load will read 12+ volts. The measurement needed is the volts when cranking/trying to crank. Connect a volt meter to the posts of the battery (not the clamps) and (in neutral with brakes set) have someone crank it. If the voltage stays pretty high, there is a connection problem, or starter problem.
If the voltage drops to 7-8 volts the battery is either not charged, or toast.
If it stays high try measuring between the starter input terminal (starter moter side of solenoid) and good ground. If the voltage is low there (6-8volts) the issue is in the battery cables or ground connection. OOOrrr the starter is stuck or shorted. Loosen the starter at its mounting bolts and wiggle it. then tighten the bolts. If it starts then, it probably needs a starter drive. Best of luck, JimN
