Got a new one popped on me today. Was yanking parts off a locals old cabs and he and his wife both start telling me about this 1056 farmall that they just saw up in the hiils in a shop. A 1056 Farmall with front wheel assist with drive axle coming down the left side. I have seen that on a 1466 so that part seemed ok but they said it had 1056 badges on it and was made for the gov't and all were shipped overseas and this one was in or supposed to go to Poland. Guess it has hydraulic problems and they can't find parts to fix it because it so unique. The man whose shop it is in wants it out of there and they are trying to find a I. H. person interested. Hey, do I look that gullible and desperate or is this the find of a lifetime? Heard it takes 10 grand to get it out the door. Ok I.H. archives specialists, what is the deal? Curiousity is gonna be the death of me!!! Migraine

There was a 1056 with a D358 engine built in Neuss Germany.

Migraine: I think we need to get a bit of terminology straightened out. I have a gut feeling your 1056 is not what Brent is showing us.

Questions; Is the tractor near you called Farmall, International or Case International?

Yep, I re-read the post and realized he said Farmall and I showed International. Sorry for confusing things.

Brent: On a site called Les Tracteurs Rouges I found the tractor very similar to the tractor in your photo, maybe even identical as they were both 1056 with 358 engine. It states this tractor was built from 1982 until 1992 thus the early ones would have been Internationals and the later ones Case International.

There was also a 1055, which looked quite the same. We saw a sizeable number of 844 come into Canada in that same era, same styling as these 1055 and 1056, but less hp and 4 cylinders.

Brent: I'm not suggesting your confusing things, or wrong in anyway. You just caused me to ask a question that we should have asked right at the beginning.

The tractor you are showing us was obviously built after the Case buyout in the mid 80s. The tractor I and quite possibly 1 or 2 of the others were thinking about would have been built before the buyout. It could be the same tractor, but with International decal.

Interesting... The hood profile looks a lot like the Ford / New Holland 4430 (built by Fiat/has Fiat gauges).

This one's on e-bay.

Migraine: I do remember hearing of such a model, and looking at the possibility of it being built either at Doncaster or Neiss, if I were you, I'd take a wee trip across border into Canada and a CaseIH dealer. IH sent a lot of European built tractors into Canada that didn't go stateside. Most of this happened at time when US plants were working to capacity and not able to supply the North American market.

There is another factor, up until mid 1970s there was a duty on US built tractors coming into Canada. Up until that time we could buy same hp for less money out of Britain than US. It was in part due to Canada being part of British Empire.

We could get the duty back if we could prove the British Empire tractors in that hp class were suppling less than 10% of the market. I got this back on my first Case skidsteer in 1975, as Thomas was the only British Empire manufactured skidsteer. By 1976 that duty was gone. there was never a hope of getting the duty back on tractors.

I can't say for certain there was a 1056, but if your finding this tractor near the border, that would be my approach. That is based on what the others have said. I don't remember the 1056, have never seen one, but there is a nagging about this in my memory.

There was a range of tractors built at the I-H Neuss plant in Germany 856/956/1056/1256/1456. They were a good tough tractor with ZF front axles.

It wasn't a 1026 was it migraine.

That was the hydro version of the 1256 I think.

I do beleive that IH built a model 1056 at the Doncaster, England plant. I think I've seen a picture of one, looked similar to the U.S.-built 86 series. These were probably only sold new in Europe, but I'm sure a few could have later found their way over here to the U.S. and Canada. The guys from the British Isles who post here will be able to tell you for sure.

even if it does exists, i dont see any mention of it anywhere, at 10 grand out the door and impossibilty to find parts, unless they are interchangeable with the 1256 or some simaliar model, It wouldnt be worth it to me unless its worth double that as it sits.
On second look, I do see one mention of it....
