Can a fast hitch be added to a 1962 Farmall 140? Where can I find out what's necessary to do this?

As Hugh and others said, should be no problem adding a fast hitch to a 140. I have done this myself recently. The problem is finding a Fast Hitch complete and in good condition. I bought and older 140 not in very good condition just to get the fast hitch to put on my 1975 140. The hitch parts had been welded on and required some repair. Also, it was missing the draft control connecting rod that goes from the front of the bail to the right hand rockshaft on the touch control You can't plow with it without that part. I finally paid $75 plus shipping for a new one after searching shows, etc for a used one. You will need to make sure your 140 has the connection on the LH rockshaft for the helper spring. I think most have that. The Fast Hitch would work without the helper spring, but it's nice to have.

Jack: As CNKS suggested go to parts book. If I were you, the first thing I'd buy would be a parts book on 1 point fast hitch. There are a lot of small pieces, and the parts book will help you make sure you have it all. Don't pay very much for an incomplete hitch, as you'll find the same parts are usually missing from all of them. Folks will remove a fast hitch and like to keep a few items as they have used it other places over the years.

There is a complete hitch being advertized in YT photo adds right now, around $700., I believe. If it is indeed complete, it's probably worth it. 15 years ago I paid $25. for a hitch without the rear rockshaft. I know I've spent a $1,000. since looking for a rear rockshaft, without success. Problem is folks keep that rear rockshaft for building a 3 point hitch. Little do they know, on those offset tractors 1 point fast hitch is 10 times the hitch a 3 point is.

Look up the parts for a 140 in the online parts catalogs in www.caseih.com. You will have to go to salvage to find one, unless someone on this site has an entire unit to sell.
