I have a McCormick-Deering 10-20 with a brass carburator on it. I am restoring the tractor now and would like to know what I should use to clean the outside and keep the brass shiny. Thanks for your input.

Paul

I have turned a few cast iron carbs into show pieces by first sandblasting, and then using a dremel tool with a small wire brush, and then clear-coating. I've experimented with a buffing wheel and polishing rouge, but it doesn't seem to make much of an improvement over just the wire wheel.

i have a friend blast mine in the cabinet, then we clear coat it, the gas generally sweats and such so the job doesn't last forever. jerry toews uses a buffing wheel on the bench grinder. that can be better than blasting. i use a can of clear acrylic spray for a couple of years and then the brass goes back to nature.
